Finding a distinguishable sound is a hard part of being a musician, especially when you incorporate other people into this sound. The Roomsounds is a distinguishable band. They are loud, yet soft; hard, yet melodical. If I could give one image to help describe the band it would be Mick Jagger in a fluffy pink bunny costume with trendy accessories and an electric bass guitar. (Bet you've never thought of that before huh?!) These four guys (Ryan, Tyler, Sam, and Dan) have played together since they were 14. Ten years later they still find it easy enough to be around each other and play wicked tunes for us to hear.
I asked around at the show, wondering what others thought. I got one reference to the Black Crowes, which surprisingly enough is one of their favorite bands and where a good portion of their sound stems from. Others ventured to say they sounded like a slash between The Beatles, Tom Petty, and The Rolling Stones. All the guys are very versatile with double up vocals, harmony, and groovy bass sounds. They had everyone at the show in silent mode, bobbing their heads and tapping their feet, especially when they played a kick-ass rendition of My Generation by The Who.
Although they opened at Boiler Room on Thursday for three other bands, these guys could definitely hold their own. I can see them in another couple years rocking our socks off at ACL or SXSW with 300 other screaming fans. The guys are really down to earth and friendly, not to mention, good looking (for you ladies out there). I know I will be at their next local show and give my support to one of my new favorite bands in the area. Although they are new in the area we need to convince them to make Denton a residence and give them the love we give to all our other fine musicians. Check them out on their myspace page and see for yourself...or you could just take my damn good word for it.
