I wonder if it was as tough for all the other photographers and writers at Hailey's Club on Friday night as it was for me. I don't know how many times I caught myself just staring in awe at Seryn. Not taking pictures, or making subtle observations, just staring blankly at the wonderfulness on display.
Seryn's sound is something beautiful. Seamlessly transitioning from light and barley audible melodies is something the group pulls of with near perfection and keeps the show moving and the audience captivated. There was something I actually did happened to notice in between long stretches of dumb faced trances. I looked out into the crowd from the corner of the stage and what I saw was something you rarely see and/or hear at a show. Every single person in the main stage room at Hailey's was absolutely silent, and focused on what was happening on stage. There were at least 200 people total who stuck around long enough to see the headliners, and aside from the murmurings at the bar and the strumming of a ukulele, the room was silent. It was one of the most spectacular and subtle things I have ever seen.
I can not wait for them to finally release their MUCH anticipated album. It looks like I, as well as the rest of Seryn's many fans, still have a little bit of waiting to do. More than likely the release is still at least two months away, but one thing is certain, when it is finally out the album will be a huge success.
Seryn was the icing on what was an overall outstanding night of music at Hailey's Club. Four very talented Denton bands played in front of what must have been around 300 people who passed through the front door of the venue. Opening the show was Mark Apel & the Ghosts. Quite good stuff to open the show in front of a heavily packed club early in the evening. Mark and his ghosts were the most surprising part of the night I think. I had never heard them before and was very blown away with their performance. They have officially made it on to my radar.
Also, the always wonderful Baruch The Scribe put on a typically good performance. I am a fan of this band and will always be. Try not to buy into what bloggers or whoever say about this group before actually giving them a listen. Sure they are not for everyone, but there are plenty of people out there who really appreciate what they do and I am one of them.
This was also the first time I got the chance to see The Western Giants perform live. Yeah, I like them! Good stuff from a group who's music is almost in conflict with their large stature and beards, but it is a delight to listen to.
It was a great time overall on Friday, the Pizza from Hot Box Pizza was OUTSTANDING as always. Further cementing my belief that Hot Box is the best pizza joint in Denton! YUP i said it!
